Sanford -- The Sonny's BBQ chain will host its second-annual Smokin' Showdown Invitational in January 2017. The family-friendly event will involve competitors from around the country.

More than 50 pit masters will compete, each hand-chosen by the folks at the Winter Park-based company. $68,000 in prizes will awarded, $20,000 to the grand champion.

During the event, Frankie Ballard and other country artists will entertain, and vendors will provide kiddie activities. $5
