Orlando -- Downtown's French brasserie DoveCote is hosting two events that sound like a whole lot of fun -- a casino night for charity, and a whiskey-pairing dinner.

On April 29, Shindig Casino Night will bring out the gamer in you. A $50 voucher reaps you two drinks, appetizers and casino chips. That entry fee, plus a silent auction and raffle prizes, will benefit iDignity, helping "disadvantaged Central Florida residents overcome the difficulties of obtaining the personal identification documents that are crucial to becoming more self-sufficient." If brown spirits speak to you, sign up for the Ultimate Whiskey Dinner Experience, to be held on May 12. Chef-owner Clay Miller will prepare a three-course dinner. Each of those courses will pair with limited-release whiskies -- six in all. You get to choose most of your foods. The menu sent is blurry, so here's a synopsis: charcuterie board; green salad or onion soup; braised beef short ribs, Atlantic salmon with preserved lemon and olives, or breaded pork cutlet with caper brown butter sauce; seasonal mousse or creme brûlée.
