9 a.m is a bit early for an ice cream cone, sure. But strolling around the Clermont farmers market on Sunday morning, I came across Grumpy's Homemade Ice Cream.
"Is it really homemade, or is it just a brand that puts the word 'homemade' into the name?" I asked, sure this ice cream has no personal tending. "My mom," answered the first gal we asked, nodding toward a friendly, youthful woman to her left. "Well, it's our recipes," the mom, pictured above, responded. "We have it made in a local facility so it meets the standards of all the area farmers markets."
I chose the homemade sugar cone over the commercial waffle cone and got myself a Kahlua-cappuccino confection. It's cappuccino ice cream with fudge-Kahlua swirl and chocolate chips.
I like this ice cream. I usually go for Haagen-Dazs, which has an intense flavor. This was more like Ben & Jerry's--milder but super creamy. And it's made, essentially, by the nice family that also sells citrus and such at a friendly little farmers market.
Next time, maybe I'll try salted caramel or Chunk in the Trunk. Or Real Strawberry. That might merit a whole 'nother blog post. Next time I'll wait until at least 9:30 a.m.
Eat enthusiastically,
Rona
