I'd essentially given up on gelato. Here in Orlando, even the so-called artisan vendors serve unsatisfactory Italian ice cream. The textures and flavors are uninspiring--not nearly as creamy and deep as what I recall from glorious afternoon treats in Florence. Yesterday, I happened up on the superb gelato at Rome's Flavours.
Oh my. Two of us split a small, which is no teeny serving, of dark chocolate and hazelnut gelatos. I'd travel back for this exact combo. They're rich, just sweet enough, dense, and lusciously creamy.
They're from a small Winter Park sidestreet shop called Rome's Flavours (it has a Facebook page but no website). The foodery also has small pizza and pasta offerings that appear to made with good ingredients--plus Italian expertise. I'll be back to try those. Wine is available too, and several guests indoors and out were relaxing yesterday over a midday glass of red.
That would a lovely choice ... if it weren't for the far more enticing gelato option.
Eat enthusiastically,
Rona
