Disney World is a vegetarian's dream vacation destination, since even quick-service counters have at least one meat-free, and often delicious, offering. What that megapark complex can do with fast-food quinoa or salmon, and with table-service tofu (mint-coconut chutney!) ... . At the brand new Italian restaurant Trattoria al Forno, I found yet another superb vegetarian entree at Disney World.
OK, Jiko's tofu with vegetable-tofu sambusas with mint-coconut chutney, coriander-tamarind yogurt, and saffron-cashew rice sounds even better, but for most Americans pesto is exotic enough. The campanelle is a sort of flower-shaped pasta with a ruffled edge, which is ideal for catching every bit of the garlicky pesto. The green beans are crisp and fresh, while the potatoes, while unnoticeable, make the dish more substantial.
Trattoria al Forno is located along Disney's boardwalk at the BoardWalk Inn, where Kouzzina by Cat Cora used to be, and Spoodles before that.
Here are some other items served to the media recently.
Three-cheese pizza with asiago, pecorino, and fontina, plus truffle cream. The flavor was mild yet special because of the truffle infusion.
Yep, they're cookin' like crazy, vegetarian and otherwise, at Disney World.
Eat enthusiastically,
Rona
